James B. Barns

Partner

Attorney Barns graduated from Denison University and the Syracuse University College of Law. Admitted to practice in Maine in 1982, he was a partner at a downtown Portland firm before starting his own practice in Falmouth, Maine. Currently a member and past president of the Cumberland Bar Association and a member of the Maine Bar Association, he has spoken at continuing legal education seminars in the areas of foreclosure, bankruptcy and title insurance. Attorney Barns has a wide array of clients and works primarily in the areas of commercial and residential transactions as well as real estate, wills and probate.

Zachary I. Greenfield

Partner

Attorney Greenfield is a graduate of Ithaca College and University of Maine School of Law, cum laude, and specializes in the areas of secured transactions, real estate and title insurance litigation, business formation and creditor's rights. He handles a wide variety of real estate-related litigation on behalf of owners, lenders and insurers. He also represents community banks and credit unions in all aspects of their operations including commercial real estate loans, commercial and consumer loan workouts, power of sale and judicial foreclosures, secured party sales and bankruptcies. He also represents buyers and sellers of real estate and businesses, landlords and tenants in lease negotiations and eviction proceedings, condominium associations, and individuals in need of estate planning and probate guidance. Attorney Greenfield is known for his balanced and direct approach to complex situations and for crafting resolutions that save his clients significant time and expense. He is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all state courts in Maine as well as in the United States District Court for the District of Maine.

Patrick D. Thornton

Attorney Thornton was born in Lewiston and raised in Portland. He graduated, cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law in 2007, where he served as Research Editor of the Maine Law Review. While in law school, he studied abroad at the National University of Ireland at Galway, Mr. Thornton worked in real estate before entering law school, completing title searches and conducting closings throughout Maine. His practice focuses on real estate and civil litigation, and he has appeared in Maine District, Superior, and Probate Courts, as well as the Maine Supreme Court. Attorney Thornton has a successful trial record, and has also been selected to serve as a mediator in complex real estate disputes. He is admitted in Maine and Connecticut, and is a member of the Cumberland and Maine State Bar Associations, as well as the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.

Stephanie G. Albert

Associate
Attorney Albert was born and raised in central Maine, and was admitted to practice in Maine in 2010. She is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, magna cum laude, and Wheaton College in Massachusetts. While in law school, she was a Production Editor for the Maine Law Review. Attorney Albert takes a common sense, results-oriented approach to clients’ issues. She focuses her practice in commercial and residential real estate transactions, small business representation, secured transactions and creditors’ rights. She also represents landlords in lease negotiations, tenant matters and compliance.

James G. Spaulding

Attorney Spaulding is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of Maine School of Law, where he received the ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in Intellectual Property Law.  While in law school, he served as a Student Attorney at the Intellectual Property Clinic, where he counseled individuals and small businesses on issues regarding trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and patents, and successfully prosecuted trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Attorney Spaulding focuses his practice in real estate and civil litigation, small business representation, landlord-tenant matters, and estate planning.  He is admitted to practice in the State of Maine and the United States District Court for the District of Maine, and belongs to the Maine State Bar Association, Maine Trial Lawyers Association, and Cumberland Bar Association.
